There’s still a couple of months of sweater weather left here in Austin. The rest of the northern hemisphere, though, has plenty of time to wear sweaters. And right now is the perfect time to get a new sweater, because we have a lot of them on sale, and each one is thankfully free of jingling bells, snowmen, or working LED lights.
Meanwhile, On the Internet …
by robertl on January 8th, 2012 - No Comments »An ongoing compendium of the things on the internet we’ve been paying attention to lately.
+ “Believe it or not, I can really draw.” Above, a full-length interview with Jean-Michel Basquiat from 1983. (via Dangerous Minds)
+ We can’t do a new compendium without including this look at the late great Steve McQueen over at Driven.
+ We noticed The Sartorialist got a sleek new redesign. Looking good.
+ “Bohemias were, famously, backwaters. Wherein grew the cutting edge.” Nowness started the new year with a William Gibson interview.
+ Now there’s a good idea: The phone stack.
The STAG Winter Sale: Outerwear
by robertl on January 7th, 2012 - No Comments »… And we’re back! We wouldn’t have been gone for as long as we were without returning with some great news. And so allow us to announce Stag’s Winter Sale, featuring markdowns in nearly every conceivable menswear category. For starters, here’s a look at just some of the outerwear we’ve reduced the prices on:
Huck Finn & Atticus Finch
by dweir on December 6th, 2011 - No Comments »Harper Lee’s Atticus Finch and Mark Twain’s Huck Finn are two of the more indelible figures in American (and Southern American) literary history. We all grew up on those two. So, for a little nostalgia kick and in hopes of providing some fine folks with a great gift this holiday season, we just brought in leather-bound editions of To Kill A Mockingbird and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. They’re exact reproductions of the first editions. Beautiful.

Minnetonka Suede & Fleece Slippers
by dweir on December 1st, 2011 - No Comments »It’s finally getting cold enough down South to slip some of these on, and we’re sure you folks up North could use some as well. An extremely well-spent $48, they’re available on our web store and in store.

+ The Awl instigated and investigated conspiracy theories based around the McRib sandwich.
+ A website that doesn’t exist but should: “Hey, Continuous Lean,” wherein Michael Williams answers your questions about menswear, Americana, and, of course, expensive notebooks.

Patch NYC Candle: Back in Stock
by robertl on November 25th, 2011 - No Comments »The day after Thanksgiving has become an American tradition unto itself. One of stress. We say: avoid the throngs of big-ticket door-buster hopefuls and create a relaxing holiday environment to enjoy. To that end, we’re happy to announce that the Stag candle from Patch NYC is back in stock online as well as at 1423 South Congress Avenue. It smells exactly like the holidays ought to.
Happy Thanksgiving from Stag
by robertl on November 24th, 2011 - No Comments »Today our physical location at 1423 South Congress Avenue is closed so that we might participate in the American traditions of feasting, slipping into a food-induced near-comatose state, and observing the one day of the year where everybody can root for the Detroit Lions. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving, and to assure you that, as ever, our online store is open for business.
Ties
by robertl on November 23rd, 2011 - No Comments »The great thing about a new tie is that it’s like getting five new shirts. If he’s got enough ties, a man can wear the same suit and shirt for a week. (Not that you shouldn’t change your shirt every day. You totally should. But you see what we’re getting at here.)
We’ve got an amazing selection of ties available in the store or online from Fahlgren, Hitsman, the Hill-Side, Forage, and RRL. Some are skinny, some are not so skinny. A few of them are bow ties. Some are striped, some plaid, some solid. But they’re all the kind that any man would be proud to own.
On Stag’s Bookshelf: James Bond
by robertl on November 23rd, 2011 - No Comments »We have so many great books available at Stag that it’s impossible to give all of them their due praise in one blog post. So we’ve decided to give individual previews of some of them over the course of the next few weeks.
“Bond reflected that good Americans were fine people and that most of them seemed to come from Texas.”
— From Casino Royale
It might be that because he has no real American equivalent — you’d have to mix equal parts Jason Bourne and Ferris Bueller in order to get close — that the quintessential British super spy James Bond is such an enduring hero in the States. Or it might be that cool, even when taken to cartoonish levels, is universally understood.
At 1423 South Congress Ave we have a collection of vintage James Bond paperbacks and reissued hardcovers that look as great as they are to read. We highly recommend them.
