Before we start, we should note that we saw a picture of this breakfast somewhere on the internet, but then promptly forgot where, so we’ve reconstructed this dish from our memory of an image we saw for a minute. Our apologies to whomever came up with it first. — ed.

When you want Fall to go ahead and get here already, we recommend preparing and eating hardy fall-style breakfasts like this one. At press time, it’s 10:00 AM on Saturday. There is still time to make this.
Necessary materials:
1 Record player, or some other means by which to play music in your home
1 copy of Sweet Heart, Sweet Light, the album by Spiritualized
1 cup steel cut rolled oats
1 dash salt
1 handful raisins
1 banana
1 stick of butter
1 bar dark chocolate
Directions:
1. Put on side “C” of Sweet Heart, Sweet Light so that you start with “Freedom.”
2. Go to the kitchen and make oatmeal. (You know. Bring a cup of oats mixed with 3 cups of water and a little salt to a boil and then let it simmer for like 35-45 minutes.)
3. While that’s happening, make coffee. This way you have something to do while the oatmeal’s simmering. And you get some coffee out of the deal.
4-7. When the oatmeal’s ready, cut like half a banana into each bowl. Throw some raisins in there. A half tablespoon of butter. In the far corner, away from the rest of the additions, put no more than two little squares — really just one — of dark chocolate in the bowl.
8. You win. Enjoy.
