STAG Recommends: Ty Segall’s “The Hill”

They say you should ingest some kind of bizarre energy shot around 2:00pm when fatigue sets in. We’re not sure about that, but we’ll tell you what works for us: a dose of Ty Segall. See his video for “The Hill” below.

You can catch Mr. Segall at La Zona Rosa on September 15th.

Meanwhile, On the Internet …

This is a compendium of the stuff we were paying attention to on the internet this week when we weren’t trying to figure out how to somehow convince Russell Westbrook to be our official New York Fashion Week correspondent. As long as GQ’s got Rondo, anyway.

+ Above, a video of a record player playing the song “High Fantasy,” from the Lace Curtains album we’ve had in heavy rotation this week.

+ Nine out of ten times we sell a bow tie, like, say, this one for instance, we direct the customer towards this video featuring Brett Fahlgren. It is the definitive bow tie tying resource.

+ Thee Oh Sees — hailed by many as the most raucous live act going — are streaming their new album.

+ ” … what’s the good of making enemies anyway?” Read Jack London’s heartfelt form letter — a rare thing, indeed — to aspiring writers who sent him their manuscripts.

IN-STORE ONLY: Our Fall Denim Event

If there’s a more quintessentially American wardrobe than jeans and tee shirts, we haven’t found it. And, to be honest, we don’t think we ever will. Jeans and tee shirts go together like stars and stripes. In honor of that, as of right now through the 16th of September, if you buy any pair of jeans in the store, you’ll get a free tee shirt from Alternative Apparel or Alchemy Design to go with it.

Once again, this promotion is valid only in the store at 1423 South Congress Avenue.

In Store and Online: New Arrivals from Jack Spade

A new offering has showed up on South Congress Avenue all the way from Warren Street in New York. The folks at Jack Spade continue to make apparel that’s as universally great-looking, well-made, and versatile as the bags that made them famous.

50% Off Sale

We’re having a gigantic sale here at 1423 South Congress Ave, but we haven’t forgotten about our online customers. Now through Sunday, get 50% off items already on sale by entering promo code “50MORE” at checkout!

In-Store and Online: New Arrivals From Barque

There’s a time-tested style axiom that goes like this: “look good, feel good.” The folks over at Barque  have created an entire design ethos by inverting that rule. Keeping a global lifestyle in mind, they make their products to the highest standards of comfort while sacrificing absolutely nothing in the way of style and construction. We just got a shipment from their fall collection in at 1423 South Congress Ave and online.

Meanwhile, On the Internet …

This is a compendium of the things we were paying attention to on the internet when we weren’t wondering when a guy who raised over 325 million dollars for cancer research and never failed a drug test was going to catch a break. (Spoiler alert: he can’t seem to.)

+ Above, watch Sleigh Bells make Avocado margaritas (Avococktails?) with Anthony Bourdain somewhere in Austin.

+ One day, our desire to win the lottery will overcome the mental block we have against actually remembering to ever buy lottery tickets, and when that happens, we will win it. If that day ever comes, this will be our car. (Or, you know, one of our cars.)

+ “Besides Hoosiers, it’s the best basketball movie ever made.” From an Oral History of White Men Can’t Jump.

+ This is a roundup of Vietnam-era engraved Zippo lighters.

+ A Famous Night is a collection of gig posters for concerts that never happened. We’re thinking of learning Illustrator just so we can produce promotional materials for the Guns N Roses classic lineup reunion show that’s always just on the verge of happening in our hearts and minds.

+ Pitchfork’s Cover Story on Cat Power is extremely worthwhile reading.
